Doing labor her own way

They had waterproof, wireless equipment — a Bluetooth fetal monitoring system — we could take with the states effectually the unit. We loved that!"

A pleasant surprise

Dr. McEllistrem came back a couple hours subsequently to check on Kristen'southward progress.

"I was at two or 3 centimeters, and then Dr. McEllistrem was able to break my water," Kristen says. "After that, my contractions started picking up — getting regular and intense."

"My infant was caput downwards, but facing the wrong management," she says. "That's when information technology occurred to me I could really evangelize vaginally and asked for an epidural as soon as possible. My nurse immediately started setting it up and was on a mission to brand sure I got information technology when I needed information technology."

That sped up Kristen'south labor at a remarkable pace.

"I went from 4 to x centimeters within ii hours," Kristen says. "It was so dainty that the dispensary Dr. McEllistrem works at is right across the street. She was able to run across the street to be with me."

Kristen was also touched by the back up of her nurses.

"One of our nurses had just gotten off the clock and stayed to make sure she could help me when I was pushing," Kristen says. "Our nurse said, 'I'm not going to exit before this baby gets born!' I loved existence surrounded past a care squad who truly wanted the best for me."

Making a hospital feel like domicile

Ten minutes later, Kristen and Louie's cute babe male child was built-in.

"My infant was on my chest within seconds," Kristen says. "The last place I gave birth, I wasn't able to have much lone time with my babe until she was cleaned and all checked. At St. John'south, we nevertheless had the intendance team around doing what they needed to, but we felt like we had our moment together."

When given the choice of staying another twenty-four hours or leaving inside 24 hours, Kristen and Louie chose to stay.

"Instead of getting rushed correct later birth, we were able to accept time and be grateful for our new babe," Louie says. "The labor room was the same room Kristen recovered in, so nosotros were able to set things up comfortably."
